Wolfgat is a unique eatery which can be found on a trip to the beautiful seaside village of Paternoster and the restaurant has just made a list of the top 100 best vegetable spots!
Wolfgat was one of a few awesome South African restaurants to make it onto the list of the best vegetable restaurants in 2018 and beyond that, they made it into the top 50. Their official placing on the list is at number 46.
They have officially been named the best Vegetable Restaurant in South Africa.
The restaurant is located in Paternoster, a little seaside fishing village located snuggly on the West Coast between Saldanha Bay and St Helena Bay. The village is one of the oldest fishing villages on the West Coast.
Wolfgat is mainly a seafood restaurant but Kobus van der Merwe makes use of local herbs and seaweeds to enhance his tasting menu. The entire menu constantly changes to fit with whatever foods are in season. “We’re Smart World” visited the small restaurant and were so blown away but what was on offer they knew Wolfgat needed to be on their list.
The “We’re Smart World” website connects people with restaurants and chefs that have a sustainable approach to food with a big focus on vegetables.
“So thrilled to be awarded Best Vegetables Restaurant in South Africa 2018, and number 46 in the world, by the We’re Smart Green Guide. As a seafood-focused restaurant, we do strive to also offer interesting vegetable-focused dishes in a coastal context using indigenous herbs, seaweeds and succulents, closely matching the flavour profile of our seafood dishes. A real honour to receive international recognition for it.”
Other South African restaurants to make the top 100 include Foliage in Franschhoek and Greenhouse in Constantia. This is wonderful news for South African foodies that love their greens.
