Sam Smith has had a bit of vocal trouble while on tour which hasn’t helped his intense anxiety levels, but after a friend sent him a video of a SA fan, he feels inspired.
Johannesburg, South Africa – Sam Smith is currently in South Africa on tour and has been having a bit of tough luck. He has been filled with anxiety and after 45 minutes on stage in Cape Town, needed to cancel his show due to voice strain. While a disappointing outcome for fans eager to watch the full performance, fans took to social media to send love and support his way.
As one could imagine, letting down fans must leave Sam with such a heavy heart and so when he was sent a video of a fan singing passionately along to one of his best songs, his spirits were lifted.
That fan, unknown to Sam, is Parnusha Moodly from Ladysmith, KZN. He shared the video to his Instagram account and captioned it, explaining his anxiety has been intense, but he thought Moodly was “wonderful”.
“My anxiety has been really intense the last few days and my friend sent me this video and it has cheered me up so much!! Whoever you are, I wish we could’ve met last night!! You are wonderful xx thank you for coming to the show”
Moodly saw the Instagram post and thanked Sam for the shout out. Her friends and family have been super excited that she was spotted at the show and received the shout out. Many have said she should contact him to let him know who she is.
It is unclear if the rest of Sam Smith’s shows will be going ahead, but South Africans have shown just how great they are by supporting him through this hard time. Take a look at Sam’s shout out below as well as some of the heartfelt and kind messages South Africans have been sharing with him.

Sad and disappointing but it was easily the best 40 minutes we could ask for! Such an amazing atmosphere! Would have loved to see the whole show though!

The most important thing is that he is healthy. He gave Cape Town his all for the time that he was on stage. And for that I will always be grateful. He did the best he could. 🥺❤️
