The International Society of Wheelchair Professionals, along with the Roxy Davis Foundation and partners, are throwing a surf therapy party in celebration of International Wheelchair Day at Muizenberg Beach, and it promises to be epic!

Cape Town, South Africa (20 February 2025) – International Wheelchair Day is celebrated on 1st March each year. It’s a day to celebrate the positive impact wheelchairs have on people’s lives and to acknowledge the work of those who support wheelchair users.

This year’s theme is Unstoppable, and it’s all about how the right wheelchair can make you unstoppable and help you reach for your dreams.

This year, the International Society of Wheelchair Professionals is collaborating with the Roxy Davis Foundation and Shonaquip Social Enterprise to celebrate this day through the power of surf therapy and community at Muizenberg Beach in Cape Town.

Together, these organisations are looking to turn the ocean into a giant playground where everyone, no matter their ability, can feel the thrill of the surf!

The International Society of Wheelchair Professionals is a non-profit that works towards training and education of wheelchair providers and advocating for quality wheelchair provision globally.

Shonaquip Social Enterprise is a hybrid social enterprise consisting of Shonaquip (PTY)Ltd, Uhambo Foundation (NPC) and the Champions of Change Trust. Together, they share a joint objective of creating inclusive, barrier-free communities for children with disabilities and their families.

The event is open to anyone who has a permanent or temporary disability and community members who’d like to volunteer their time and support in changing lives. It will bring together volunteers and participants to create a powerful day of inclusion, connection, and surf therapy—where the ocean becomes a space of freedom and joy for all.
