Swifties across the globe are collectively freaking out! In a good way.

South Africa (27 August 2025) – Yesterday, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce dropped what may just be the sweetest bombshell of 2025. The internet’s favourite couple, affectionately known as ‘mom and dad’ of the Swiftie universe, are officially engaged.

The pair announced their engagement on Instagram and within a matter of hours, the post racked up over 27 million likes.

Let’s rewind for a second.

Their love story began just over two years ago, when Kelce attended one of Taylor’s concerts, on a mission. He’d made her a friendship bracelet with his number on it, hoping it might spark something. Bold move.

Unfortunately, he didn’t get to meet her backstage after the show. Logistics were against him.

“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings. So I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,” he told his brother Jason on the New Heights podcast.

The internet, and Taylor’s team, heard the ‘man tantrum’ (Taylor’s own words) loud and clear.

“It was such a wild, romantic gesture to just be like ‘I wanna date you!’” Taylor recently said on New Heights.

“It felt kind of like I was in an ‘80s John Hughes movie and he was standing outside of my window with a boombox…”

That awkward but very adorable reach paid off.

Soon, Taylor was showing up at Kelce’s games. Kelce was front-row at her shows. Red carpets. Public appearances. PDA that didn’t make us cringe. And now…a ring.

Cue The Breakfast Club fist pump.

Two years later, the not-so-private relationship reached peak rom-com status with a fairytale garden proposal.

Travis popped the question to Taylor at his home in Missouri, surrounded by hydrangeas, garden roses, white anemones and alliums. Swoon.

The ring is massive, and sparkly. An antique-style ring with a rare old-mine-cut diamond estimated at around $29,000. That’s just over half a million South African ‘ronds’.

And Taylor Swift said yes. Obviously.

Their viral Instagram announcement was paired with the ballad So High School from Swift’s Tortured Poets Department album. A song many believe was written for Kelce.

“I feel so high school every time I look at you,” she sings. The clip ends with: “Are you gonna marry, kiss, or kill me?”. A nod to Kelce’s 2016 interview where he chose to kiss Taylor in a game of Kiss, Marry, Kill.

And then came the caption.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨”

Your English teacher. And your gym teacher. Absolute cinema.

South African Swifties are unwell in the best way.

Good Things Guy’s leader and resident Swiftie, Brent, raced to Facebook to celebrate the big moment with her SA fanbase yesterday. We all rallied there…

“Screaming! Crying! Perfect storm!” wrote Sharné Bodenstein, referencing Taylor’s Blank Space.

Sasha Krul chimed in with a quote from Love Story, now more appropriate than ever:

“Marry me Juliet, you never have to be alone. I love you and that’s all you need to know. I spoke to your dad, go pick out a white dress, it’s a love story, baby just say yes!”

SA Swifties are thrilled not only by the good news, but for the example the happy couple sets for the rest of us. Relationship goals.

“It’s great to see the once ‘forever girlfriend’ finally getting what she deserves and it sets a great precedent for young women across the globe to stop settling and white knuckling their relationships…Thrilled for the new music too and just happy our girl can finally find peace,” says die-hard Swiftie Jade McGee.

Now we’re onto manifesting a South African wedding or honeymoon. That would finish us.

It really has been a blockbuster month for Swifties. A new album on the way. An engagement. The internet is healed. Congrats, Taylor and Travis. We’re crying. Happy tears.
