OREO released an incredibly emotional advert that might bring you to tears… but it’s the comments that will leave you ugly crying (in the best way).
Global (28 October 2020) – A loving world, starts with a loving home. And OREO is showing us just how easy loving can be!
“Because when we see people like us being represented on TV… it makes it easier to be us. And when people on TV show the world how to be proud and love unconditionally… it makes it easier for them too.”
For over 100 years, OREO has bringing families together, but their new advert is doing so much more!
Before we say anything more, watch this:
OREO created the film in a partnership with PFLAG, America’s oldest LGBTQ+ ally organization, to create #ProudParent, a year-long initiative designed to shine a spotlight on the powerful impact love & acceptance can have on LGBTQ+ youth. Together they are committed to empowering and inspiring parents, families, and allies to come out in loud, public support.
The global movement gives rise to families being families, no matter how different, and has opened many hearts and minds in the process.
Read some of the emotional comments left on the YouTube video:
“I’m a conservative dad, and my child has values I support, embrace a life of faith, and came out to me this year as nonbinary. I can’t even imagine the immense bravery that took. #ProudParent” – Vishwa Jay
“Some people don’t realize how important it is to have a commercial like this in the media. The end made me cry super hard, to the point of shaking, because of how validating it is. The hate people of the lgbtq+ community face within their own family is heartbreaking, so seeing this commercial makes you hopeful that your parents will love you too. Yeah it was made by a cookie company, but I love Oreos and I love that they made this for us. They could’ve used the money to make any other commercial, and commercials are VERY expensive (companies spend millions in advertisements), but they made this and truly made an effort to understand the struggles within the lgbtq+ community. I love this commercial.” – Kay Spoo
“I’m a dad. I have a 20 year old daughter. I cried tears of joy watching this. Some times us old farts take a little time to realize the institutional and cultural bigotry we carry. This video is very real and heartwarming. Going out now to buy some Oreo’s.” – Michael Williams
“Sometimes it’s just not about selling a product and money. Sometimes it’s about taking a stand for love instead of hate.” – Frank DeFrancesco
“Omg my dad sent me this and told me to watch it, didn’t tell me what it was. ❤️🏳️🌈 I’m so happy right now.” – Alvalee J Morgan
“I did not expect to be breaking down in tears over an Oreo ad this year. Thank you so much.” – Axton Burton
“This is beautiful. I wish I had gotten this kind of validation from my dad before he passed. Thank You.” – Hamgrazer
“… adds Oreos to grocery list.” – Jen G
As part of the new advert, OREO gave away 10 000 limited edition #ProudParent packs of OREO cookies featuring rainbow coloured creme, to people who shared a photo showing what allyship means to them.
And social media was inundated with PROUD parents, showing proud love.
