Despite their crucial role in shaping young minds, South African teachers often face immense pressure. Recognising this, a new non-profit, Time for Teachers, has emerged to look out for the well-being of future builders.

South Africa (27 March 2025) – Teachers are at the forefront of shaping young minds, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to navigate the world. It’s a rewarding experience but a demanding one too!

Championing the support of these incredible future builders is Time for Teachers, a non-profit organisation founded by three professionals who have spent years working in education, teacher support, and mental health.

“We know that teaching is both rewarding and demanding, and our goal is to provide educators with the tools and support they need to manage stress and maintain their well-being,” shares founding member Camilla Montgomery.

“Our organisation was founded by three professionals who have spent years working in education, teacher support, and mental health.”

Cheryl, a counselling psychologist, has run workshops for teachers and witnessed the urgent need for better mental health support in schools. Heather, an education researcher and former teacher, is passionate about equipping educators to navigate the complex challenges of the classroom.

“As a teacher herself, I’ve seen firsthand how essential it is for educators to prioritise their well-being so they can continue making a meaningful impact on their students,” explains Camilla.

Teachers who have benefited from the organisation’s programmes and workshops have praised them as great initiatives for their schools, informative and beneficial to all teaching and support staff.

With the vision to provide practical, evidence-based support to teachers, helping them manage stress and build resilience, Time for Teachers will be hosting a webinar to introduce its Self Help Plus programme.

The programme is developed by the World Health Organisation and adapted to address the specific challenges faced by South African teachers.

“In this session, we’ll explore stress management techniques and aim to connect with schools to offer long-term support through structured in-person workshops (5–7 sessions).”
