As the countdown to Valentine’s Day inches closer, and you still don’t a single romantic idea in mind, the anxiety slowly build to a mild panic. It’s time to calm the nerves. You have 24 whole hours in the day, to come up with one romantic gesture.

For The Early Risers…
Cape Point
Can’t see your loved one, because you have to work late? Then just start early! Cape Point nature reserve boasts spectacular mountain views, over 200 bird species, fynbos, a variety of hiking trails and great selfie opportunities. Nothing screams romance quite like a breath-taking view. Cape Point offers great picnic spots to enjoy a memorable Valentines Day brekkie. Pack a delicious picnic basket or for those who prefer less hassle, book breakfast at the Two Oceans Restaurant. There are also 3 curio shops so be sure to grab a souvenir to remember your most romantic date yet!
Lunch for two is something to do…
Bistro Sixteen82 at Steenberg, named after the year in which Steenberg was established, offers seasonal ingredients and inventive dishes by Executive Chef, Kerry Kiplin. Seeing as though it’s been listed as one of EAT OUT’s Best Bistro’s, we thought Bistro Sixteen82 could make it on our perfect Valentine’s Day list this year. The menu caters for all tastes and we suggest their 5-star (Platters Guide 2018) bottle of Steenberg “Lady R” MCC 2012 would complete the afternoon. It’s a somewhat pricey treat, but it is Valentines Day after all.
Get Shaking at Cocktail Hour
The Gin rush is far from over in South Africa… And if you’re going on a first date for Valentine’s Day, and don’t quite want to commit to a full dinner, then cocktails is the perfect intermediary (you can always get a bite after. Fire & Ice in Menlyn, Cape Town and Melrose Arch have just launched their OTT (Over the Top) Gin range, with drinks like Jungle Slang and Tropicalli. Just watching the art of cocktail making will give you lots to talk about, should the conversation run dry.
Dinner for two…
It’s an old one, but a good one. Not too flashy, friendly staff, and seafood that will take your tastebuds places. The Brass Bell in Kalk Bay is right next to the ocean, you feel you’re in the waves. With views like this, your date will melt into your arms. It was built in 1939 and has become a local’s favourite and on all tourists’ to do lists, but all that means nothing when you stare at the ocean sharing a dessert.
