The La Bottega Restaurant in Woodstock recently shared a clever water saving tip for bars and restaurants. They have had great success implementing this tip in their own bar.
La Bottega has had an extra 200 litres a day just by doing this one thing in their bar. They have hooked up the pipe from their ice troughs to a water drum which collects the melted water from the ice.
The restaurant uses the water for plants, cleaning and the toilet systems. This makes a big difference as they are able to cut costs and reduce their water usage.
They hope their tip will inspire restaurants and bars within the drought-stricken areas. They have challenged other places to do the same. The idea is very clever and useful. So pass this tip along to all your favourite hotspots and let’s save even more water.
“Please pass this on to your Restaurant and Bar owner friends… We are running our ice troughs into 25ltr water drums instead of our plumbing. In a days trade, we roughly get over 200ltrs a day in melted ice water to use in the restaurant for plants, toilets and general cleaning. It’s a huge saving for a small restaurant and I can only imagine what the bigger venues in Cape Town could save on a busy day.” – La Bottega Restaurant
