In January alone, the Wings and Wishes charity facilitated 100 trips across South Africa by flight and bus for financially disadvantaged children in great need of specialised medical care far from home.

South Africa (04 January 2025) – Medicine and healthcare are already heavy financial burdens for many parents and families. The added stress of travel expenses to receive crucial medical care is something no struggling family should have to experience. But sadly, they do.

Helping ensure that transportation isn’t a barrier to accessing expert medical care is the Wings and Wishes charity, which afforded 22 new children the opportunity to travel long-distance to receive medical treatment far away from home. These children, many of whom face various critical illnesses, travelled with the Wings and Wishes team for the first time last month.

The organisation also celebrated funding 100 trips and transported children all over the country by bus or flight in January alone.

No hospital is too far or journey too complex for Wings and Wishes. The organisation focuses on providing transport for financially disadvantaged children who require life-saving or specialised medical treatment anywhere in South Africa.

Just recently, little Anele and her mother travelled all the way from Mafikeng to Cape Town for treatment at Groote Schuur Hospital.

Another heartwarming testimony is that of Awonke, who was transported from Bloemfontein to Cape Town for a heart transplant in August 2022.

Almost three years later, with Wings and Wishes helping the family with all their flights to follow-up appointments, Awonke has made remarkable progress and has returned to mainstream schooling for the first time since his transplant this year!

These are just a few examples of the powerful impact and contributions Wings and Wishes is making in saving young lives in need and restoring quality of life one trip at a time!
