Behold! The perfect excuse for a victory lunch…

South Africa (26 February 2026) – Two South African pizzas have featured on a list of less than 20 of the world’s best!

People are like snowflakes, but so are pizzas! No two are the same.

To settle the debate of which slices truly stand above the rest, the writers at Time Out Worldwide spent devoted hours slicing their way through the planet’s best ‘za. Out of a final list of just 18 pizzas from across the globe…South Africa claimed two massive spots!

Pizzas made in Joburg and Cape Town have been featured in the ranks.

In Braam, inside the city’s second-oldest bar, you’ll find the world’s sixth best pizza – that’s Little Kitchener’s Pepperoni & Hot Honey. Time Out’s Liesl Bartlett’s high praise goes to its perfectly sweet, sticky, spicy and salty balance.

“This is a messy, glorious masterclass in balance – the saltiness of the curled pepperoni edges is cut through by the sticky, sweet heat of the honey. It’s so good that we know you won’t want to share.”

Then, over in the Mother City, a pizza named The Capetonian from Pizza Connection has locked in a lucky number, ranking 11th on the list. Time Out’s Selene Brophy says its all in well-chosen ingredients and a 48-hour fermented base.

“This pizza is a nod to this city’s locals, and it proves that classic, well-chosen ingredients make all the difference.”

Further up on the list, New York’s Mama’s Too takes top spot for its Cacio e Pepe. Followed by Rome’s 180grammi Pizzeria Romana for its Pizza Capricciosa.

Our pizza wins are just the latest in a string of international accolades for South Africa. We’re on a roll. This month, Durban ranked 14th on Time Out’s The Best Places to Travel in 2026. Our coffee is officially elite, too. Cape Town’s Espressolab recently took its place as the 40th best place to grab a coffee in the world!

Carbs, caffeine and travel. Three things that rock our world.
