On the 18th of December, Bianca and Helder’s worst nightmare came true – while on a trip with their dogs; Boltin their elderly lab got lost in an unfamiliar area.
Magaliesburg, South Africa (19 January 2021) – Bianca and Helder took a trip with their dogs to the Saamrus Farm Resort. Their dog Boltin, a black labrador, got away from them and went missing. They were distraught as they needed to leave but never gave up the search.
Boltin got lost around the Magaliesburg and Hekpoort area near the Saamrus farm resort. The couple went back to the area every day in the hopes of finding their beloved pet.
They managed to catch glimpses of Boltin several times but due to his stress and fear, he always ran off before they could get to him.
They brought in an animal communicator for help locating him as he had not been seen for 10 days. Thankfully, the communicator confirmed that Boltin was alive and gave several locations where Boltin would be passing on his travels.
Bianca and Helder were devastated that their leave period had ended. They both returned to work, giving up their daily searches for Boltin. The couple committed to getting back to the area over the weekend. Their story started reaching others and quickly people signed up to assist with the search.
A big search party took place that next weekend, the 10th of January. Drones were deployed to help give a birds-eye-view of the search as it went along. The search was eventually rained out but the family felt a renewed sense of hope because of all the support they received.
On the 15th of January, they got the first positive identification of Boltin. It was an exciting day but as Boltin is incredibly wary of strangers, he got spooked and ran off again. Bianca and Helder went back to spot the next day and also caught a glimpse of Boltin.
They decided to take a chance and set a trap in the area he kept being spotted in. It worked! The very next day Boltin got caught in the cage trap and was reunited with his parents. Sadly he was still terrified and the trap caused him a great deal of stress but once he was home, he seemed to settle back into his old life.
His trip to the vet was thankfully uneventful, all his tests came back clear and he even got a really good bath. Boltin spent a total of 30 days out in the wilds of Magaliesburg.
