This Women’s Month, South Africa celebrates Olympian and BMX racing trailblazer Miyanda Maseti, who continues to inspire with her historic achievements.
South Africa (26 August 2025) – This Women’s Month, Team South Africa shines a spotlight on the women who break barriers, redefine possibilities, and inspire generations. Among them is Miyanda Maseti, a trailblazing athlete whose achievements embody perseverance.
A Bidvest athlete, Olympian, two-time African Continental Champion, and seven-time South African Champion, Miyanda has long been a force in the cycling world. Her dedication and success have made her a role model not only on the track but also for young women across the country dreaming of sporting excellence.
One of her standout moments came in Cape Town, which played host to Africa’s only UCI World Pump Track Championships Qualifier. The event brought together riders from across South Africa and the continent for an opportunity to compete for a place in the World Championship Finals.
For those unfamiliar with pump track racing, the sport takes place on purpose-built circuits featuring rollers, banked turns, and technical features that riders navigate entirely by pumping their bodies, generating momentum without pedalling or pushing. It’s a true test of skill, balance, and endurance.

This year’s Cape Town qualifier was held at the Generation Schools Sandown Institute, marking the first time the event took place in the Western Cape after previous editions in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. Miyanda was among the country’s top talent competing, and she did not disappoint. In a stellar performance, she qualified first in the Women’s division, securing her place at the World Championships and proving yet again why she is one of South Africa’s most formidable cyclists.
Her achievements go beyond medals and podiums. They represent the resilience, focus, and determination required to excel at the highest level, and they highlight the growing presence of women in competitive cycling across the continent.
This Women’s Month, Team South Africa celebrates Miyanda Maseti and every woman rewriting history one victory at a time. She stands as a testament to the fact that with talent and hard work barriers can be broken, records can be set, and inspiration can be sparked for others to follow.
