New Grow Tunnels Installed at Special Needs Home's Farm

The Home of Hope’s Anselm Farm got a major donation that will go a long way to growing their offerings; the grow tunnels, two of them to be specific, will help the special needs residents get stuck in, no matter the weather (we see you Cape Town winter!)

Western Cape, South Africa (13 June 2024) – The Home of Home Anselm Farm got a huge donation. Both huge in size and for how big the impact will be on the lives of the residents that live and work on the farm. The farm has installed a few grow tunnels, the perfect space to grow things in the windy and wet Cape.

Home of Hope is a non-profit organisation that cares for abused and abandoned children in South Africa, especially those suffering from Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) – permanent brain damage caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol.

The home has two bases, one in Table View and one in Malmesbury. The Malmesbury residence is known as the Anselm Farm which is located on a small holding and it is where many of the organisation’s “adult” residents live and work.

In an interview from 2021, the home shared why this space is so precious. At the time, they were funding to establish the farm and today, they celebrate big donations!

“We saw the impact of such a farm on our young adults with FASD and special needs. This is not just a project, this is our heartbeat. This is a place where our young adults will be protected and will have a place where they belong. A place where they are understood and fully supported along the way.

Those with FASD and special needs are often misunderstood and not accepted in their communities, which make them extremely vulnerable to various forms of abuse. We want to meet this need by creating a space where these young adults feel valued, as they partake in skills development activities and experience social and emotional development, as they interact with those around them. We want to offer support and mentorship and walk alongside them, as we model healthy relationships, teach job skills, enable individual development and show them how to advocate for themselves, as well as to be proud of who they are.” – Home of Hope (15 November 2021)
