A well-deserved show of recognition for the heroes who go above and beyond to save lives in the face of danger.

Kleinmond, South Africa (06 July 2026) – The volunteers at NSRI Kleinmond Station 42 have just been given a Certificate of Excellence!

Just over a month ago, the same crew waded through floodwaters near Worcester, where they rescued 23 farm workers, including babies, the elderly, a blind man and a paraplegic man, off rooftops where they’d been stranded for days. They worked through the night, launching rescue crafts and hauling people to safety in relays, until every survivor was accounted for.

Now, those heroes have been recognised for their courage and bravery.

“While it may appear to be just a certificate, to us it represents something far greater. It reflects countless hours of training, the dedication of our volunteers, the unwavering support of our families, and the commitment to answer every call for help—whether on the sea, on our rivers and dams, during floods, or wherever people find themselves in danger.” Station 42 shares.

NSRI crews don’t get to pick and choose where disaster strikes – they never turn away either.

“Water does not distinguish between the ocean, a river in flood, or an inland dam. Every rescue demands preparation, teamwork, courage and compassion. Every time the pager sounds, our crew responds with one purpose: to bring hope to those who need it most.”

The heroes of NSRI are everyday people who volunteer their time to save the lives of others. Much of their work is made possible by supporters who believe in their mission.

“This recognition belongs to every volunteer who has stood ready, every crew member who has answered the call, every shore crew volunteer, every family who has sacrificed precious time with their loved ones, and every supporter whose generosity makes our work possible.”

“We are humbled by this recognition, but we know that excellence is not measured by a certificate. It is measured in quiet acts of service, in lives saved, in lives touched, and in the unwavering commitment to be there when our community needs us most.”
