Is it too early to start decorating for Christmas and building on that festive cheer? No, that’s the answer and you have our permission to start decorating right now!

South Africa (05 November 2024) – My friend-filled WhatsApp group has been a buzz of conversation around when it is ok to start putting up Christmas decorations. I am personally on team “let’s do it early” – my neighbours have decorated their front door, the shops have all the decorations out and on sale. So my thought is if it brings joy, let’s do it!

Who doesn’t love sparkling lights and Christmas carols? Let us not forget the wholesome movies that come out this time of year. The festive vibes also mark the start of the iconic South African Dezemba vibes, and those absolutely add joy to our lives!

In 2020, we united around the world for a two-month festive season (we actually started the discussion in September 2020, so it happened even earlier than this year).

Many South Africans are feeling a bit burned out. The holidays are so close, yet they feel a bit far away. So, if it will lighten your heart to have the tree up, put the tree up! If you want to wear your festive gear, throw on that ugly sweater! If you want to spread some extra festive cheer, go out and be merry! The rules are that we are all grown up and we get to make the rules.

But, if you are looking for official permission, take it from the Good Things Guy himself, Brent Lindeque, who innocently shared news about our upcoming book. While we sat googly-eyed, staring at the images of our hard work finally in unofficial print, we spied that Brent had already put up his tree (check in his mirror)! And if that was permission enough, consider our tree out!

In 2020, a list of festive rules went out and the first one was that Christmas tunes needed to start being played from the 1st of November. Well, we are 5 days delayed but are very ready to catch up! Let’s make Christmas 2024 just as merry (and this year we can actually hug our loved ones!).

And with that, because we at Good Things Guy LOVE the festive season, prepare for more fun and festive content. You can expect proudly South African carols, kind deeds that melt the heart, festive charity features and, lest we not forget, our Christmas Movie Advent calendar, which comes out at the end of November (I am already watching all the movies just for you!). Oh, and the adverts, we are so ready for this year’s adverts!
