Thanks to a kind stranger, one amazing little kid – who had recently lost his dad and had a really rough start to the year – had the best birthday ever!
Western Cape, South Africa (07 February 2022) – *Noah tragically lost his dad three weeks ago, but a family friend still wanted him to have a special seventh birthday, even in his heartache. Little did this family know that their faith in humanity and kindness would be restored again when the entire birthday meal was paid for by a kind stranger.
Kimlynne Olivier had spent most of January helping *Susan after her husband tragically passed away.
“2022 has been a tough year so far. I am exhausted. Most things feel like mountains lately. Three weeks ago my domestic goddess called me. Her husband had tragically passed away. I went into organizing mode. Funeral plans. Funeral claims. Hospital bills. Life insurance. Funeral parlours. Fights with banks. Funeral parlours again. Mortuary. Police Station. Banks again…”
The entire process was incredibly overwhelming for her and had caused her to lose her faith in humanity.
“I tell you I lost a lot of faith in humanity. So few showed compassion or empathy. But we pushed through. Every corner brought a new challenge.”
Fast forward three weeks, and Noah was turning seven. The first birthday without his dad.
Kimlynne usually contributes birthday cakes or party packs for his birthday, but she wanted to do something more this year. She offered to pay for a birthday lunch at Spur for him and his friends.
“Today was the day. 10 friends quickly became 14. Next thing, I had to arrange a bus – quite a bit of stress and logistics. But we made it. We arrived at the restaurant with 14 very excited kids.”
Kimlynne says that all the kids had the best time. There was laughter, and happiness and yummy food and fun! The afternoon was a success.
As they were about to sing happy birthday, the restaurant manager approached her, saying that he had good news.
“My first thought was that they had dropped the cake and were going to compensate us by giving the birthday boy his meal free. Lol. I know. Pessimist here. He laughed and said no. Really good news. I was like OK tell me.”
The manager explained that a Good Samaritan had paid for the entire bill. Kimlynne was in shock. The total amount for the entire table was quite substantial.
“I was stunned, probably seemed rude as I thought the manager was lying. I could not believe him. He showed me the bill and the receipt. Paid in full. My faith in humanity was restored. Tonight a total stranger paid it forward for a group of people they do not know. And one amazing little kid – who had a rough start to the year – had the best birthday ever!”
