SA Guide Dogs are being celebrated in honour of the Guide Dog Association turning 70! Here’s how you, your community, school or business can get involved:

South Africa (16 May, 2023)—The South African Guide-Dog Association for the Blind is turning 70! In celebration of this milestone birthday, the Association is asking us all to lend a paw as part of the 70 Days of Giving for SA Guide-Dogs initiative.

The aim is to raise R700 000 00 in 70 days until 18 July 2023, but the Association needs South Africa’s help to achieve this!

With ever-increasing costs in fuel, medications and maintenance to their buildings, SA Guide-Dogs has had to dig deeper to keep the Assistance Dogs-in-Training comfortable and healthy.

The Puppy Block and Kennel Facilities need to keep running during load shedding which has meant an increase in diesel expenses for their generator.

And, the Orientation & Mobility department is as busy as ever, travelling by car to help people with visual impairment in communities across South Africa. With the increased cost of petrol, this has also meant an increase in expenses to the Charity Organization.

How we can help!

The floor is open to come up with fun and interesting ways to raise funds for SA Guide-Dogs Association over the 70 days by hosting events in our communities.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Host a walk-a-thon, dance-a-thon or fun run at your school
  • Host a blindfolded activity day or walk at your school or office
  • Host a lucky draw in your community
  • Set a personal sporting record by cycling 70kms or doing 70 push-ups every day for 70 days
  • Host a casual day or dress-up day at your school

“You can do whatever you want to do. The possibilities are endless!”—Jackie Quail, Regional Marketing Manager for SA Guide-Dogs.

In return, South African Guide-Dogs Association can offer:

  • A visit to your school, fundraising event or business with their Assistance dogs-in-training. (Only available in Western Cape and Gauteng)
  • A certificate of participation in the 70 Days of Giving for SA Guide-Dogs Campaign.
  • A thank you video from our puppies in our Puppy Block or Dogs in Training.
  • To feature your fundraiser on their social media pages.

Alternatively, you can email JackieQ@guidedog.org.za to discuss ideas or find out more about how to help the Association.
