A Scotsman has been reunited with his South African mom… after three decades of searching for her.

South Africa (31 May 2021) – Have you ever heard about someone meeting their mother at the age of 40? It sounds quite strange, but it actually happened… and it is an incredibly heartwarming story!

Ewan Arnott is 40 years old now. His parents are both Scottish, but he was born in 1980 in Klerksdorp, South Africa. His father worked as an electrician in the mines. Sadly, his parents had some issues, and they decided to split. The worst thing for a kid!

Arnott moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, along with his father and sister in 1990, but his mom – Janis Stevenson – stayed in South Africa.

He was just nine years old, and his father looked after him and his sister. Though he proved to be a good father, he just couldn’t replace a mother’s love, which Arnott always strived for. He hasn’t seen his mother since 1990, but a community, some kindness and a phone call recently reunited them… kicking off his South African quest to see his mom again!

Arnott had found the location of his mother with the help of Sunny Govan Radio, a few internet publications and missing person sites in both Scotland and South Africa.

Arnott was so delighted after talking to his mom that he took it to Twitter. He announced that he has found his mother and appreciated all the parties who helped him find her.

According to him, she burst into tears when she heard, “Hello, this is Ewan.” And he could feel that she was alleviated over the phone – a very special moment for the mother and son.

“Definitely, it’s a very critical point for a mother.” Well, that’s how Arnott explained his first phone call with his mother after 30 years!

He said that he was around 11 when he last talked to his mother. He said that he tried to locate her previously, but he couldn’t do it. But then the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything.

Arnott has finally decided to take his mother back to Scotland after hours of phone calls, but he will need to raise quite a bit of money to do this!

Though Arnott is a university graduate with a permanent job, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted his life. He was furloughed, and the little money he gets is used to pay the bills, loan, and fulfil other fundamental living requirements.

He has finally found his mother after 30 years but still can’t hug her due to monetary issues. That’s actually so incredibly tragic.

Arnott is requesting friends and anyone who is moved by this story to help him raise money. £5000 is required to reunite the mother and son.

It’s a request to donate as little or as much as you can. A single penny will go a long way to helping this family reunite!
