He’s done it! Pretoria’s Andre Green, an award-winning hairstylist, has broken his second world record, this time for the most haircuts done underwater!

Johannesburg, South Africa (03 December 2025) – Families, friends, supporters, volunteers, divers and children supported by Abraham Kriel Bambanani all gathered around the pool to back Andre in his attempt to smash the Guinness World Record for most underwater haircuts on Saturday.

The goal of the record attempt was to raise R400,000 for the children supported by Abraham Kriel Bambanani.

It took over 10 months of planning, training and collaboration to get to the big moment. And countless dives into ice-cold pools.

But he did it.

At the NPC’s Langlaagte Kinderhuis in Johannesburg, Green set the new Guinness World Record with 31 underwater haircuts in sixty minutes!

Andre held the scissors, but without support, it wouldn’t have been possible.

One of SA’s oldest and most respected PADI diving centres, Reef Divers, played a huge role in making it all happen. They sponsored the event. They taught Green how to dive. And they rallied their community into action, helping to secure the PADI volunteers who dove for a haircut on Saturday.

One such volunteer was Jess Pita. A blind PADI diver. She’s a motivational speaker, influencer and advocate for people who are blind and disabled. When she heard about Green’s record attempt, she wanted to participate and help spread the word.

Jess played a special role on event day. She helped Andre match the previous world record, diving as his 27th cut. His sister, Eliza, who was instrumental in helping her brother pull it all off, came next at 28, helping him claim the new world record.

And then he kept on going. Until one hour was up and 31 divers were rocking new hairstyles.

“I can’t put it into words. So much work and so many people got involved to make it work for the kids.” says Andre. “The best part was having them around. One of the kids screamed at me before I went down that I ‘shouldn’t worry, god is going to be with me down there.’ That was special. After an hour underwater, to pop back up to a sea of little supporters cheering was a highlight!”

The fundraiser is still going. If you’d like to contribute, find out more here.
