From school fields to provincial tournaments, the Hashim trio are making their mark in cricket while chasing big dreams.

Alberton, South Africa (02 December 2025) – Cricket talent clearly runs in the Hashim family. From Alberton, Johannesburg, siblings Rieshaeel (16), Zaim (15), and Rumaysah (11) are not only passionate about the sport but are making waves at provincial and national levels. With a packed schedule of cricket tournaments lined up for November and December, this trio is one to watch.

For the eldest, Rieshaeel, representing the U16 Easterns School Cricket Association, is familiar territory. This marks his second consecutive year at the provincial level. His brother Zaim is following suit, also earning his spot on the U15 Easterns team for a second year running. Meanwhile, their younger sister Rumaysah is breaking barriers at just 11 years old, becoming the first girl in 72 years from her school to make the Lions Girls U11 team, and she even captains her school side.

The siblings’ talents extend beyond cricket. Rieshaeel and Zaim excel in hockey and indoor cricket, with both invited to trials for the South African U17 indoor cricket squad for next year’s World Cup. Zaim’s hockey skills also earned him a spot on the provincial U16 Easterns Gauteng team earlier this year. At home, award cabinets are filling fast. He claimed Best Junior Cricket Player and Best (U19) Senior Hockey Player, while Zaim was named Best U15 Hockey Player. Rumaysah has already secured a place in Bedfordview Cricket Club’s senior women’s team.

Beyond the accolades, the siblings are committed students. Their parents have been steadfast supporters, guiding them through the challenges of combining schoolwork with an increasingly busy sports schedule.

With dreams of one day representing South Africa as Proteas cricketers, the Hashim siblings are setting their sights on the upcoming tournaments, including the National Week Tournament in Paarl for Rieshaeel, the Regional Week Tournament for Zaim, and the Lions Girls Regional Week for Rumaysah. Both Rieshaeel and Zaim will also take part in the Paarl Boys Tour with their school team in January 2026.

To help the trio continue chasing their dreams, the family has launched a BackaBuddy campaign. Contributions will go directly toward tournament fees, travel, accommodation, and kits, easing the financial burden on their parents and ensuring these rising stars get the opportunities they have worked so hard for.
