A Former Miss South Africa and Miss World is going viral with an important message about body image and health.
Anneline Kriel (born July 28, 1955) is a South African actress, model and a former Miss World and Miss South Africa .
She became Miss World in 1974 representing South Africa and is only the second woman from South Africa to hold the title international title.
Kriel was only 19 years old when she became Miss World in 1974. This marked a tumultuous period in South Africa’s history, as the international boycott of South Africa continued to take place. As a result, she sometimes caught the fire of international media that depicted her as a face of the apartheid state. In support of the boycott, the US and Australia refused to accept her as part of the obligatory world tour of a Miss World.
However, the US later relented and Kriel made television appearances there. In South Africa, her crowning received a rapturous response from the public and local media.
Kriel took to social media to share an important message about body image and health which has since gone viral with thousands of shares.
“People have a picture in their minds of what I looked like when I was 19. I still feel the same inside. Your spirit doesn’t really age, but even though my body has changed I’m comfortable with it.”
“To me, health is the most important thing, you can’t enjoy anything in life without it”
