A group of guys wanted to give back, so they grew their beards!
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (17 March 2026) – The Nottingham Road Beardos have been supporting their local Howick charities for almost a decade now (next year will be their tenth year).
They’ve made a huge difference for organisations like the Midlands Hospice and Operation Bobbi Bear by raising support through beard-growing campaigns, charity events like the Christmas Tractor Parade, and producing a ‘Beards & Bums’ calendar…
They also keep the momentum going right throughout the year with community donation drives, breakfast carts at local sporting events, and growing their beards. It’s loads of fun, but it’s also impactful work.
On Saturday, this group of ‘Beardos’ – who by name are affectionately called MuzzCat, Rob, Horns, J, Cruze, Murdock, Walks, Sammo, The Fridge, Ram, and Contract – shaved off their rather big beards that had been growing for a whole year…
The event drew a crowd at the Nottingham Road Hotel. There was a market, a potjie-kos competition, a fundraising auction, and of course, the main event – the shavathon. By the end of all the festivities, an incredible R1 000 000,00 was raised toward the Midlands Hospice that cares for the town’s terminally ill and Operation Bobbi Bear, a safe haven and temporary home to children who seek refuge from abuse.
“The shave off was an epic event, it surpassed all of our expectations. We are very grateful to everyone who was there and had a hand in helping us on the great day.” shared the Beardos.
This week, the Midlands Hospice took a moment to publicly thank their bearded (now clean-shaved) heroes for their incredible act of generosity.
“A heartfelt thank you to the Nottingham Road Beardos for their amazing donation,” they shared. “This extraordinary contribution will go a long way in helping us continue providing home-based care and support to patients and families in our community with life-limiting illnesses. Your kindness, commitment and community spirit truly make a difference. We are deeply grateful for your support and partnership. Together, we are making a meaningful impact.”
