After a month of worrying and searching, Billie the cat from Bellville, was found after adventuring all the way to St James. But thanks to a kind stranger, Billie made a successful homecoming!
Belville, South Africa (16 July 2024) — There are few things that warm the heart quite as much as a lost family member finding their way back home, especially when the long-awaited reunion is sparked by the kindness of someone else. This was the happy case for Billie, the Bellville cat, who recently made his way back to the comfort of his loving home after a month of being missing.
Like many curious cats who ponder about the world beyond their homes, Billie is suspected to have slipped away through the gate when his family weren’t looking on 9 June, 2024. Described as a cat who isn’t exactly streetwise, his loved ones were naturally very concerned when they discovered their cat had gone rogue.
Leonie Viljoen tells Good Things Guy that they searched for Billie for weeks in the Boston and greater Bellville area, unfortunately without success. Exactly a month ended up passing to a point in time when, typically, the hope of return would be at its most slim but instead proved to be brighter than ever.
Leonie shares that on 9 July, they received a phone call from False Bay Vet all the way in Muizenberg to share the good news that Billie had been brought in. As it turned out, Billie had adventured all the way to a stranger named Marianne Lancefield’s house in St James, around 45kms from his home!
Billie’s family couldn’t be more grateful that Marianne had taken the extra care to take the cat to the vet just to see if he was microchipped. Because of that thoughtful act, he was able to make quite the homecoming from his travels!
“This is the only reason we found him. Very happy and grateful he is back home.”—Leonie Viljoen.
