Brothers Adrian and Nigel Payne dedicated their Freedom Challenge to the Reach For A Dream Foundation and raised over R330,000!

South Africa (06 July 2022) – The winter Race Across South Africa (RASA) started in mid-June, and riders are starting to complete the challenge in groups of 10. Brothers Nigel and Adrian Payne have been racing the Freedom Challenge to raise funds for the Reach For A Dream Foundation. They started their RASA Freedom Challenge on the 16th of June, 2022.

The race sees mountain bike enthusiasts navigate their way from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal to Wellington in Western Cape, some 2150km away.

RASA, which forms part of the Freedom Challenge series, sees riders navigating by means of maps, compass and narrative directions. The use of GPS devices is strictly prohibited. There is a wide variety of off-road terrain, which includes dirt roads, farm roads and tracks, footpaths and animal tracks.

For most, it is a soulful journey through the heartland of our beautiful country. Time away from their usual busy lives. Time to reset the barometer of life and just ride their bike with little distraction or worry from the crazy world outside. For Adrian and Nigel, it was a chance to give back.

Finishing their race yesterday, the 5th of July 2022. They have been doing endurance sporting events for over 40 years, having both run the Comrades and Two Oceans marathons, paddled the Duzi and Fish River canoe marathons and done a number of multi-sport events.

The Payne Brothers have been a mountain biking team for over a decade, having done numerous Freedom Challenges, ABSA Cape Epic, Joburg2C, Tour de Tuli, Transkei Wildcoast and other events together.

Turning their love of endurance into a chance to make a few dreams come true has been incredible. Reach For A Dream fulfils the dreams of children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have been diagnosed as having a life-threatening illness by a medical practitioner.

The funds raised by the brothers will go a long way to making more dreams a reality for these ill children and teens. They have managed to raise R330,000 already but they are not done yet! Both Adrian and Nigel have already signed up to do the summer RASA in October this year, where they plan to double up the funds raised for this fantastic cause.
