Cape Town bikers rallied and revved to make a difference! Together, they participated in a charity bike run to support the Animal Welfare Society of SA’s hospital in Philippi:
Ottery, South Africa (31 October 2024) — This past Saturday saw a buzz of activity in Ottery as Cape Town bikers united for a heartfelt cause!
It was an opportunity for the biker community in the Cape to ride and rev for a reason as people with a penchant for two wheels put their motorcycles to wholesome use—riding in solidarity for animal welfare.
This marked the inaugural Charity Bikers Run, hosted by the Animal Welfare Society of SA (AWS), which hoped to raise funds through the ride for the medical aspect of its work.
Starting off strong early in the morning, numerous bikers prepared to set the course for the animals that AWS cares for.
With helmets on and the spirit of making a difference aboard, the crew rode to raise funds for AWS’s animal hospital based in Philippi. The hospital is a critical component of what the AWS does; offering life-saving and life-changing treatment. However, it is also a costly operation when there is no one to pay the animals medical bills.
The effort was a hugely happy occasion that made the AWS and animal-loving community proud to hear the sound of bikes riding past. Donation boxes were stationed at the entrance to Hart Nursery (where the AWS’s charity shop is based) but they weren’t the only things that were filled that day. Equally more full were the hearts of the animal heroes who were immensely grateful for everyone coming together.
“A MASSIVE round of a paws to everyone who joined us for a fantastic day out filled with laughter, great company and happy memories,” the AWS team shared, adding that all proceeds from the ride will go to the care bills of the animals in their hospital.
The AWS hopes to make the Charity’s Bikers Run an annual event like the Toy Run and we can’t wait to see it grow as the years go on!
