Food Drive Hamper Migrant Charity Sustainability vs Starvation: The University of Pretoria’s Holistic Food System Solution to the COVID-19 Crises

The One Small Act of Kindness charity is keeping a list of people in need; they have already delivered 4000 food parcels but need help to do more.

 

Johannesburg, South Africa (15 May 2020) – Desperate not to turn hungry people away, One Small Act of Kindness, a charity in Johannesburg, started a crowdfund to purchase food items for food parcels. To date, they have raised R155,000.00, which has helped them support hundreds of families.

One Small Act of Kindness’s Facebook inbox has been filled with pleas for help. They have tried to help every person, not wanting to turn anyone away. Even though the charity has managed to raise so much, the need is so great that they are already running low on supplies and funding.

To date, they have delivered 4000 food parcels but currently have 100 people on the waiting list and that number grows day by day!

They use the funding to purchase the below items for food parcels. If you wish to deliver, the below items are the ones needed.

  • Mielie meal (2-5kg)
  • Rice (2-5kg)
  • Teabags
  • Sugar (2kg)
  • Tinned food (pilchards, beans, corn etc)
  • Soya mince
  • Soup Mix
  • Juice Powder
  • Samp (2kg)
  • Lentils
  • Oil
  • Pasta
  • Peanut Butter
  • Jam
  • Soap Bars
  • Washing Powder

At this stage, the charity is welcoming all forms of donations, people can donate to their crowdfund, direct deposit or deliver the food items to them for the parcels. If you are able to order online, you can have delivered to either Fontainebleau Community church or 32 Olympic Road, Blairgowrie.
