Jodie Storm Falconer reached out for help when Elvis, a colleague from work, was mugged and lost his front teeth. Her community rallied to help raise funds.

Jodie Storm Falconer sought assistance from her local Facebook Group to get information about the process of going to the dentist school for help with replacing missing teeth for one of her workers.

She had found out that he had been mugged while walking home and the muggers had knocked his front teeth out. This had a knock-on effect on his confidence levels and she saw his brightness fade as he became to shy to even speak.

Knowing this could affect him in the long run, she started working on a plan to help him out and get the dental work needed.

“One of my workers was mugged and they hit his front teeth out. He can’t afford a normal dentist rate in order to fix his teeth. He is so shy and embarrassed to talk and I believe it is affecting him daily.”

People started offering advice about the Wits dentist school but confirmed the waiting period for new teeth was in the region of two to five years. Unable to allow that kind of waiting period, Jodie started looking around for help.

She was contacted by a dentist who offered to wave her consultation and service fees in order to help out Jodie and Elvis. About a month after Jodie reached out to the group, she shared a wonderful update about Elvis’s progress.

They had confirmed that Elvis would have to have a further 3 teeth extracted before an impression and denture set could be made up. Going the private route meant that Jodie would have to pay for the new set of teeth.

People on the group had all offered to contribute to the fund to help Elvis get his smile and shine back. Well, he got his smile back and it just warms our hearts!

He went in to have the 3 teeth extracted, then spent a week healing. After the week was up, he had an impression done which was sent off to cast the dentures.

Jodie has confirmed that any donation, no matter how small, would help change Elvis back into the shining man he once was. Now he finally has his new fitted dentures and is smiling brighter than the stars. He is overjoyed with his new teeth and is incredibly grateful for all the helpful community members that came together to assist him.
