How Red Frogs South Africa is creating safer environments for young people in party and festival spaces through support and education.

South Africa (16 July 2025) – In a world where alcohol-fuelled environments often dominate youth culture, having a trusted presence offering safety, support, and genuine care makes a huge difference. That is exactly what Red Frogs South Africa brings to the table.

Focused on young people aged 17 to 30, Red Frogs is a support programme with a heart for protecting. Whether it is during matric holidays, university life or major music festivals, their mission remains the same. That is to provide a positive peer presence, promote safe partying behaviours, and offer alcohol-free or alternative activities that keep young people engaged, safe and supported.

Since launching in 2013, Red Frogs has become a familiar face at South Africa’s biggest festivals and youth-focused events. Working closely with event organisers and emergency services, their approach is designed not just to respond to crises but to prevent them. They often describe themselves as the fence at the top of the cliff instead of the ambulance at the bottom, and their proactive crowd care strategy reflects that mindset.

From safeguarding over 50,000 festival goers each year to supporting thousands of Matric students across five popular holiday destinations, Red Frogs volunteers provide calm and caring support in situations that could get out of hand. They are present in accommodation venues, on streets and at parties, making sure young people are looked after and reminded that their safety and future matter.

It does not end there; at universities, Red Frogs works to shift campus culture through education and direct engagement. By equipping students to make better choices, they help raise a new generation of leaders who can positively influence their peers.

At the heart of Red Frogs’ work is a strong belief in young people and their potential. Whether it is handing out bottles of water, walking someone home safely, or just being a friendly face in a chaotic moment, Red Frogs is there to help young people survive and thrive these years.
