Daniel Weclaw, a 43-year-old child abuse survivor from Cape Town, is turning his pain into a powerful 3,000km journey of personal healing and hope for many children facing similar adversities.
Cape Town, South Africa (11 February 2025) – Daniel Weclaw has chosen to turn his years of pain, shame, silence and fear into a journey of resilience and hope.
The 43-year-old Cape Town resident and survivor of child sexual abuse has embarked on an extraordinary journey, walking around the entire coast of South Africa, from Alexander Bay to St Lucia.
This 3,000km walk is not just a physical challenge, it’s a part of his healing journey and will also help raise funds for the Teddy Bear Foundation, which does invaluable work in supporting child victims of abuse.
“As a survivor, I know firsthand the devastating impact of child sexual abuse. The statistics are staggering. But I believe that together, we can create a safer, more compassionate society for all.”
“I would like to send a message to every other survivor that taking back your life is possible and help give the strength, hope and courage to overcome the trauma,” shares Daniel.
The beginning of February marked the beginning of his trek as walks along some of the most remarkable and remote parts of our beautiful country. Each kilometre covered stands as a testament to his commitment to helping many vulnerable children in need of healing, counselling, safety, and a future far brighter than the negative circumstances they have faced.
Daniel also hopes to speak to victims and relevant organisations and schools along the way, sharing his story of overcoming.
He has also shared snippets of his journey on his socials and created a crowdfunding campaign on BackaBuddy, where all proceeds will go towards the Teddy Bear Foundation.
“Every step I take will bring us closer to a world where no child suffers in silence. Your support will fuel my steps, amplify my voice, and inspire others to take action.”
