South African stories: Finding hope and second chances together!

A chance meeting between a South African who had lost all hope, and another who saw great things in her, sparked an inspiring story we should all read.

When we work together, when we help each other… we rise together!

Every now and then, a person with no agenda, no ulterior motives and no self-interest will take pleasure in helping someone else succeed, grow and live their purpose. These people exist all around South Africa… ordinary humans who become heroes by doing extraordinary acts of kindness.

And it’s stories like these that we should be sharing with each other.

Mandisa Chamane Khawula shared a post thanking her hero, Mike Hall-Jones, for believing in her and given her “the break she needed”. She met Mike at one of the the lowest points in her life. She had lost all her hope and is seemed as though she had no where left to turn too.

“I still remember the day I met this man… I had no job, I had no clothes beside one black skirt and one white shirt that I only use for job hunting. I was blacklisted and nobody wanted to hire me.

When I met this man I had already exhausted all my options and I was ready to give up because of all the rejection. I had no money for tertiary education, and was living in a house that no human being should live in.” – Mandisa Chamane Khawula

Mike met Mandisa and immediately knew that all she needed was an opportunity to shine. He saw something in her and knew he had to do everything possible to help her be the best version of herself.

“I am in the motor business. We are a Isuzu and Opel dealer in Pietermaritzburg. All and any support is always welcomed so I can try and change the destiny’s of more impoverished and marginalized people. Giving opportunity is one gift but the receiver has to embrace the opportunity and pursue their dreams.” – Mike Hal-Jones

Mike ensured that Mandisa’s name was cleared from being blacklisted, he then gave her a good job, bought her work clothes and made sure that she had enough money to get to work everyday. He put all the measures in place to make sure she would be able to get on her feet before taking off in a new life path.

“I still remember the day when he told me that my life will never be the same.

Thank you for giving me a chance in life, thank you for believing in me!

Thank you for not just being my boss but being a father I never had. May our Lord Jesus Christ keep on blessing you and your family.” – Mandisa Chamane Khawula

Since then, Mike has also helped Mandisa get her  drivers license, and helped her further her education so that she can climb the corporate ladder.

“Mandisa. I am so very proud of you. I know you will do far greater things for mankind than I.” – Mike Hall-Jones
