Cape Town, South Africa (21 June 2024) – The flight crew of flight GE375 have been hailed heroes for helping a pregnant woman in distress. The woman wasn’t feeling well before her flight from Durban to Cape Town so the crew jumped into action, getting help to the airport as she went into early labour.
The moment took place before the flight on Monday evening. Jonathan Ayache, LIFT CEO shared his pride in the flight crew’s actions and gave some insight into the moment.
“An expectant mom was assisted by our crew shortly after boarding the flight, as she had expressed that she was not feeling well.”
“Safety is always our priority, and while the mother was under the regulated 32-week mark, it was safest for her to disembark.”
“Whilst the gate staff were fetching a wheelchair to take the pregnant passenger to the departure lounge, she informed the crew that she had gone into labour”, he says.
Jonathan shared that as she went into labour, doctors who were also onboard the flight, disembarked to check on the vitals of the baby after she gave birth. The whole unexpected delivery was handled so smoothly by the flight crew, doctors and emergency services who arrived to take over from the doctors and crew.
A stretcher was brought up and mom and baby were transported to Ethekwini Hospital, and after following up with the family, LIFT can confirm both mom and baby are healthy and doing well.
The heartwarming moment has left so many people in awe of the crew’s efforts to help the mom and her new baby. They truly are heroes.
