Ryan Botha, a former South African international footballer spent New Years Day in hospital after breaking his left ankle and leg while saving a man’s life the day before.

Botha, an ex-pro-footballer, co-owner of PointBreak Fitness Centre, and Model for Boss Cape Town jumped off the side of a house to assist a man who had fallen over a rim-flow pool.

The South African hero saw the ordeal and immediately sprung into action to save him.

Botha spoke to ‘Soccer Laduma’ about the ordeal.

“The guy fell eight metres off of a pool overflow and landed on his head below, and everyone went into a flat panic. I can do CPR because I’m a trainer, so I found the lowest point and jumped down.”

“It was about five metres down, round about two stories, and I broke my leg and ankle when I landed. But I crawled over across to him, stabilised his breathing, checked his blood, tilted him to the side and kept him warm until the paramedics came. He was critical and it was so scary.”

The man who fell and Botha are both recovering in hospital.

One of Botha’s friends, Kyle Evans, posted the picture to social media which quickly gained traction with shares and comments.

Shane Burnell Dam commented: “bro ! Ryan Botha crazy stuff man , good luck with the healing champ!”

Rikki Brest added: “This doesn’t surprise me. You are brave and courageous. Glad people like you still exist and happy that you are ok!”

Graham JimmyJagga James posted: “When the “good” instincts kick in, it shows great character… #SuperBro
Speedy recovery to you and the other person.”
