Hjalmar Rall has left South African’s speechless by being the youngest graduate to graduate from the University of Pretoria with Cum Laude BSc in Physics.

Pretoria, South Africa (03 June 2021) – Hjalmar Rall started at the University of Pretoria at the age of 14-years-old and graduated this week at the age of 18-years-old Cum Laude for his Bachelors of Science in Physics.

Rall is from Riebeek-Kasteel in the Western Cape. He has always loved maths and the sciences, so naturally, he pursued his studies in those fields.

In an interview with Pretoria News, Rall explained that he wants to specialise in Quantum information theory research. But, unfortunately, this isn’t an option in South Africa, which means he will pursue his academic career overseas. When thinking of Rall’s success, one can easily compare him to the fictional genius Sheldon Cooper; it is, however, more exciting as this brilliant young mind hails from South Africa.

Rall’s schooling career has been a good one. He was homeschooled up until his graduation, studying under the Cambridge International system. This is what enabled him to make a jump into tertiary education at such a young age. Being far from home, he explained that fitting into the university realm was tough at first, but after two years, he found his comfort and was able to push through to this day.

Rall has big dreams and hopes to be like his idol theoretical physicist Sidney Richard Coleman someday. He hopes to become a lecturer in physics someday, which is why his next goal is to get a placement at one of the international universities with booming physics departments.

We have every faith that Hjalmar Rall will be able to accomplish his dreams. Congratulations from our team, Hjalmar; best of luck with your exhilarating future!

As for future physics hopefuls in South Africa, Rall has a message for them too! He recommends any student wanting to venture into physics, to complete Cambridge A-level mathematics, chemistry and physics after matric as it covers all the bases and will give a good foundation leading all the way to graduation.
