Reach for a Dream

Captain America made Olwethu’s biggest superhero dreams a reality.

Eastern Cape, South Africa (23 January 2026)Reach For A Dream enlisted the help of one of very special superhero – Captain America – to stop by and make a brave little fighter’s dream day come true.

“Olwethu from Motherwell is a gentle, energetic boy with a big heart. When he spoke about what he loved most, his answer came without hesitation. Marvel superheroes. At the top of the list stood Captain America, his ultimate hero.” shared the organisation.

Reach For A Dream brings joy, hope and support to kids aged 3-18 who are fighting life-threatening illnesses. One way they do this is by making dreams come true.

Olwethu’s biggest dream was to own his own Captain America toys.

Reach for a dream knew they could one-up that and give him the best day ever.

“We collected Olwethu with his family from their home before heading off to Toys R Us…Waiting outside the store was Captain America himself, ready with a smile, a warm hug, his iconic shield held out just for Olwethu.”

He got to run around with his favourite superhero. Then there was a sword fight. Then a bunch of new toys! The images are everything. The look on Olwethu’s face says it all.

“Throughout it all, he proudly wore his Captain America costume, soaking up the freedom of being out of hospital, surrounded by fun”

What Reach For A Dream does is important because it gives seriously ill children something powerful to hold onto. Hope. By making their dreams come true, the NPO helps kids escape hospital routines, protect their sense of childhood, and feel joy during unimaginably tough times.

That emotional lift is good for the child and for his or her family. It also becomes a core memory to hold onto – those mean the world.

“Happy Dream Day, Olwethu. May you always carry the bravery of Captain America, standing tall, shield up, ready to take on the world.” shares Reach For A Dream.
