Liané Roux was born with three congenital heart defects that were found when she was 4-months-old; her family are raising funds to get her a life saving surgery.
Secunda, South Africa (02 March 2022) – 9-month-old baby Liané Roux has brought the community of Secunda together over the past few months. She has three congenital heart defects and is in need of a life-saving surgery. People are doing everything to help her get the medical help she needs.
When Liané was just four months old her parents, Ashley and Quinton, took her to the doctor. She had a fever and had difficulty breathing. The doctor sent the family for tests at Steve Biko Academic hospital in Pretoria. This is where they recieved the harrowing diagnosis.
Her heart defects can only be mended by a very intricate surgery that cannot be done at any State Hospital in. In fact, only the Maboneng Heart and Lung Institute in Johannesburg has been willing to do the surgery.
Her heart is weakened and over-worked making any kinds of respiratory infection a big risk. Liané desperately needs surgery, that comes at a massive cost as her parents do not have a medical aid.
Community Uniting
The Secunda community has rallied around this family to help save baby Liané’s heart. The Secunda Mall is planning a special fundraiser for her on the 3rd of March.
So far, the family has raised a massive R300,000, but they still need another R500,000. That’s why dozens of listeners including Danelle van der Watt from Secunda Mall reached out to Good Morning Angels to assist this family.
R100,000 was donated by the Naked Insurance group. The family were deeply grateful and cannot believe just how generous people are being.
If you are able to attend the fundraising event at the Secunda Mall, it takes place on Thursday 3 March from 17:00 – 20:30, find out more here.
