A photographer dropped his brand new phone on a cliffs edge, and never expected to find it again… until he met the good samaritan that was looking for him.

Alfred Thorpe, a South African photographer was taking pictures on the cliff with the Stellenbosch triathlon squad, to promote the Walkerbay Xtreme weekend that is taking place at the end of April.

He placed his camera bag on the ground and after they ran past, grabbed the bag again and followed them, to get a few extra shots.

“It must have been exactly there where my phone must have dropped. I continued working for the next 45 minutes, without noticing that it was missing.”

As soon as her realized that his phone was missing, he went on ‘Google’s Find-My-Phone’.

“The last time the phone was “seen” was on the cliff path. I immediately returned to that spot. It was already dark and my phone was turned off, so the chances of finding it was slim.”

As he walked up the path, there was a man hovering around, almost as if he was waiting for someone. Thorpe walked up to him and asked him if by any chance he seen his phone.

The stranger asked Thorpe what brand and color it was as if he would help him look for it. Thorpe answered and the good samaritan pulled the  phone out of his back pocked and said that he had been waiting at the exact spot where he found it to return it to its rightful owner.

“I was one happy guy because the last thing you want to do is loose an almost brand new phone. I asked him to come with me to my vehicle and gave him all the money I could find. Unfortunately his English was very broken, as I was trying to explain to him to meet me again the next day.”

Thorpe went back to find him the next day, to get his details and hopefully assist him with work but unfortunately hasn’t seen him since.

“I did ask his name but I can’t find where I wrote it down. In my memory he will just remain a mysterious angel.”

Thorpe tweeted a photo with the hope of any Hermanus locals bumping into him and possibly giving him work.

“Who knows what can happen when people stand together.”
