This weekend, Howard Warrington will take on his 200th time tackling the Robben Island to Blouberg crossing, a historic moment in the making fledged with hope for a local SPCA!
Cape Town, South Africa (21 June 2024) — A historic moment is to be made this weekend as endurance athlete and champion of icy channels Howard Warrington prepares to take the plunge on his 200th time tackling the Robben Island to Blouberg crossing!
The esteemed swimmer, who has already tackled 199 of these crossing adventures, has dedicated the build-up to his 200th to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, just as he dedicated his first 100 swims to the animal organisation.
For Howard and the staff at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, the 200th swim (set for Sunday, 23 June) is not just about breaking a world record. It’s a chance to raise significant funds, awareness and hope for the animals who need a lifeline.
Howard completed Swim 199 last week and visited the animals at the SPCA on Friday.
“I met so many animals who have a chance at healing, thanks to your generosity and the tireless efforts of the SPCA team,” he said. Seeing dogs like Charlie, a stray whose life was saved by the SPCA after he was found with a rope cutting into his neck, inspired Howard to push on in his challenge that strives to bring hope and healing to come to fruition.
With R140 000 raised already, the icy challenge has already warmed hearts, and you can add your support here.
