Hugo's Greenhood

Since his passing, his parents & the community have continued with Hugo’s cause making the Hugo’s Greenhood initiative bigger than anyone could have ever imagined!

Hugo Paluch was known to all by his huge heart, generosity and care for others. He may not be with us anymore, but his memory has left a ripple effect of kindness in his community.

14 year old, warm-hearted Hugo Paluch, sadly lost his life after an accident at school earlier this year. The catastrophic accident took place on the busy school playground during the break. Instead of spending his Friday with his family that night in June 2017, he was fighting for his life in the Milpark Hospital’s intensive care unit.

While on the field, some children were playing with a goal post that had become loose, it toppled over, and severely injured Hugo. It is every parent’s worst nightmare to receive “that” call, which changes things forever.

Since that tragic day, his memory and who he was, has had a ripple effect of kindness in his community, creating projects of positive change that will last forever.

Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein said: “I knew Hugo Paluch personally and he is an astounding person, a talented young leader who is an activist for good, working on projects to make the world into a better place, and raising funds for many worthy causes.

“Hugo was a very special young man, who brought happiness to his family and all who knew him. I know of countless stories of remarkable acts of kindness of his. His parents, Dov and Nicole, are beloved friends to me and my family and to so many others, and our special community’s inspiring and united response to this tragic accident is testimony to the greatness of the Paluch family. Our hearts and prayers are with Hugo and his family at this time.”

Hugo was someone who saw the unseen and noticed the unnoticed. In the middle of 2016, he began to notice the recycling walkers in our area.

The way the world works did not apply to Hugo as he saw things very simply. He saw the way that these recyclers lived and he wanted to make their lives better. Simple!

He took it upon himself to raise money to buy them lunch each week which then turned into a year-end fundraising raffle. Each week Hugo would listen to the stories of the recyclers and their struggles which ultimately led to the formation of Hugo’s Greenhood and the realization of Hugo’s dream to find employment for the recyclers.

Hugo's Greenhood

Since his passing, his parents & the community have continued with Hugo’s cause making the Hugo’s Greenhood initiative bigger than anyone could have ever imagined!

“We, as his parents, are committed to making sure that Hugo’s vision and dreams for these recyclers become a reality.”

“Hugo was a visionary, who befriended the recyclers giving them a lunch, but hoped to one day give them the opportunity to have employment. He saw those that the world did not see. His wish was “for us to become aware that “our small actions can change lives” thereby giving the recyclers the opportunity to become empowered and support their families and community.”
