A South African woman who got stuck while driving through protests, was saved by two kind hearted men who saw she needed help.

Lauren Ramakers got stuck on loose wire while driving through riots recently and two men in a bakkie saw her and immediately stopped to help.

No questions asked. No race noticed. Just with kind hearts. These two men made Lauren and the rest of South Africa see our best side. This is our South Africa!!!!

All is calm now in the informal settlement after protesters caused havoc on the roads recently where Lauren got stuck.

Their anger stemmed from the fact that the Metro police had removed stand markers which they had erected on the municipal land. The Department of Housing had already earmarked this area for a housing development for Zandspruit and Cosmo City residents.

These residents were promised new homes but have had their dreams removed and will have to wait for a new resolution from the government.

Lauren had driven through the riots on her way the nursery school when a wire got caught under her car. She took to Facebook to write this message:

“This is what MY SOUTH AFRICA is about!!!

Sitting in my car now writing this post with the most humble heart.

Today, driving past what looks like riots in Cosmo City again, I was on my way to my nursery School and I got a HUGE bundle of wire wrapped around my tyre. Had to pull off immediately and proceeded to try pull it off but to no avail.

Within seconds, a bakkie pulled over (who actually pulled to the left to let me pass earlier) and two guys jumped out with side cutters to help me. I am so grateful for these ANGELS today.

I NOT for one second thought any ill will was intended. No questions asked. No race noticed. Just with kind hearts.

Please just be kind.”

  1. My story was in PMB a few months ago. I turned down a one-way street into hell, into a notorious area of robbers by mistake. My back window in my Citroen C1Play had been destroyed by a careless driver whilst I was sitting on the N3 waiting for the traffic to move forward last October 2017, But that was history…

I became scared as one ‘man’ distracted me at my drivers’ side window begging whilst another put his hand on my side to grab my cell phone. I hit his hand hard breaking my ring in the process, but then other ‘men’ started climbing into the back of my car through the open area and releasing the back doors. If it hadn’t been for a taxi driver behind my gently bumping the back of my car, heaven knows what would have happened and the robbers ran off. I have never been so scared and so grateful to that taxi driver.

  2. I had a flat tyre once, just before Blackrock in the beginning of a January. Those who know where Blackrock is, would probably also know how extremely hot it gets there. I had all my pets and A LOT of stuff in the car. I started to unpack to get to the spare wheel, when a taxi pulled up and a couple of guys jumped out. There wasn’t much conversation and before I could really comprehend what was going on, the tyre was changed and everything loaded back into my car!
