What began as a young mother struggling to provide for her baby has grown into a story of strength, hope, and a brighter future after One Small Act of Kindness stepped in.
Johannesburg, South Africa (20 August 2025) – When One Small Act of Kindness first shared the story of a young mother facing difficult circumstances, the response was mixed. Some people judged her, while others opened their hearts to help. What followed has become a story of resilience, love, and a community coming together.
Just a few months ago, this mother was uncertain about her future and how she would manage to raise her newborn son. There were way too many outside voices telling her to give up, but she chose to hold on and give her child the best life she could. With encouragement and support from One Small Act of Kindness, along with the kindness of strangers, she found her footing.
Today, her story looks very different. She has been working for three months, holding down a job and providing for her little boy. Her determination is evident not only in her efforts at work but in the way she continues to raise her son with so much love. The little boy who once depended on others’ generosity is now thriving, and his mom is preparing to take the next step by enrolling him in school, as he has become far too curious and active to spend his days quietly at her workplace.
When One Small Act of Kindness first met this young mother and her newborn, the situation was heartbreaking. Without proper water or electricity, she was not able to give him a real bath, and their clothing and supplies were minimal.
While life has not suddenly become easy, her journey shows how far hope and kindness can go. One Small Act of Kindness has always emphasised that sometimes people do not need a handout. They simply need a hand up. This young mother is living proof of that.
She often visits with her little boy, sharing moments of joy and gratitude. Each visit is a reminder of the difference that can be made when compassion is chosen over judgment.
Her story belongs to everyone who played a role, whether by donating, sharing her story, or simply sending words of encouragement. And as One Small Act of Kindness continues its mission of uplifting lives, this stands as a shining example of why small acts of kindness matter.
