Johannesburg, South Africa (04 July 2023) – Parents at Marist Brothers Linmeyer are all in agreement that Larry Nyoni is a hero like no other! He acted quickly to help save a driver’s life and for that, he is being honoured. Renay Tandy a fellow parent from the school, heard the news and launched a fund to cover his medical expenses.

Renay, the co-founder of Ngage, was left in awe when news of Larry’s actions started spreading through the school. She quickly jumped into action to reward his heroics and cover his medical costs.

Larry works as a barista at the Just Darling coffee van. He is part of most of the parents at Marist Brothers Linmeyer’s daily routines, brewing up their teas and coffees while they drop off their children at school. For Renay, he is a big part of her daily routine too.

She shared that at the end of last week, the 30th of June 2023, Larry was working as usual when he noticed something incredibly odd. He realised he was looking at a driver slipping into a violent seizure, causing them to lose control and drive into a secondary vehicle. Before he knew it, he had rushed from his coffee van and was trying to assist the driver.

As time was passing, the driver was clearly in severe danger, Larry shared that they were turning blue right in front of him. The school’s medical officer was called for and when Larry could see no other way in, he smashed the window to be able to reach the driver.

“Without a moment’s hesitation, Larry sprang into action. He realized the gravity of the situation and made a split-second decision that would change lives forever. In a display of unwavering courage, he shattered the car window, granting access to the distressed parent.

This bold act allowed the school’s medical officer to provide the urgent medical attention needed to save a life. Larry’s selflessness not only averted a potential tragedy but also showcased his unwavering commitment to helping others in times of crisis.” – Renay Tandy

In his act of pure selflessness, Larry was badly cut by the window glass. The school has ensured that he received medical attention for his wounds, ending up with several stitches. He took on the additional medical costs personally. When Renay heard his story, she knew he would have earned himself a few medical bills in the process and wanted to ease that financial stress.

“However, Larry’s act of heroism came at a personal cost. While saving a life, he suffered severe injuries to his arm, requiring multiple stitches.

Despite the pain and sacrifice, Larry remains steadfast in his belief that no obstacle should hinder his determination to assist those in need. His unwavering conviction to lend a helping hand is truly admirable.” – Renay Tandy

Renay launched a crowdfund on BackaBuddy in the hope of raising R15,000 for the incredibly brave community hero.

“Larry is a part of my daily routine, and his smile and cup of coffee is often is one of the highlights in my day.
Larry is the barrister at the just darling coffee van at my kids school and knows nearly every kid and parent by name.

When I heard what he did and how brave he was, I started this page because I know that the parents of the school would love to thank him for being such a hero.” – Renay Tandy

Larry comes from Yeoville, Johannesburg and is the proud father of two little boys, Ethan who is six years old and Jayden who is six months old. Larry is credited as a devoted father and now we have no doubt, a devoted man of his community too!

“In recognition of Larry’s selfless act, we have launched this crowdfunding campaign on BackaBuddy. We aim to show our appreciation and gratitude to Larry for his exceptional kindness and heroic deed. The funds raised will not only serve as a token of thanks but will also contribute to providing him with much-needed support. Larry has expressed that he requires clothes and other essentials for his two boys, who are undoubtedly proud of their extraordinary father.”
