South African screen icon Leleti Khumalo was honoured as a true master of her craft, accepting the Performing Arts Legend Award at the A Night With Legends event.

Johannesburg, South Africa (06 November 2025) – “We’ve reached legendary status and I’m truly humbled.” The words of one of South Africa’s celebrated acting talents, Leleti Khumalo, upon receiving the Performing Arts Legend Award at the A Night With Legends event held on Saturday.

A Night With Legends is an annual event that celebrates and honours the music of iconic South African legends. The glamorous event welcomed celebrities and artists, showcasing the richness and diversity of local talent through melodies, movement, and art.

As part of honouring Leleti, a talented group of young performers took to the stage to perform their captivating rendition of one of Leleti’s most popular performances in the 1992 musical drama film and stage play, Sarafina.

Dressed in a stunning gown designed by Phiwa Goqo, Leleti, unable to contain her excitement, rushed to the stage to join the show. Together, they performed the beloved routine of “Freedom is Coming Tomorrow” in front of the lively crowd.

“They honoured me with this special performance, and I decided to honour them back by joining them. Like the late, great President Nelson Mandela, I too believe that children are a nation’s Greatest Treasure, and it’s always so special to me to be able to inspire the young ones, “Leleti wrote in a touching post that featured a video of the magical moment.

Starring in powerful roles in films like Hotel Rwanda, Yesterday and Invictus, as well as the small screen soap opera Imbewu: The Seed, Leleti has made an undeniable mark on our country’s entertainment industry.

Leaving with the well-deserved award at the end of the night, Leleti expressed her gratitude to her supporters and all who have shaped her into the national treasure we all admire today.

“It was truly an honour, and thank you to everyone who’s always been a part of my journey. Ngyabonga kakhulu.”
