Former Miss SA Mia le Roux’s groom-to-be, Luke, is her biggest supporter. He’s held her hand, done up her zips and buttons, and remained a rock through one of her biggest chapters.
South Africa (27 October 2025) – Sunday marked the start of a new chapter for Miss South Africa, as the nationwide beauty pageant crowned its new queen.
But also for Mia le Roux, who has gracefully stepped down from her title as Miss SA 2024.
Mia wore the crown for 14 months, in her barrier-breaking reign as the first-ever hearing-impaired woman to win Miss South Africa. She’s lived up to her goals of speaking up for those hard-of-hearing, showing up for deaf communities, and starting conversations that support disabled people.
Stepping into a role where representation matters can also be exhausting. But facing outwards, Mia’s grace has sparkled.

Her fiancé, Luke ten Oever, has walked the journey with her. He’s the first to notice her grace. He also honours every tough battle she’s fought along the way.

He shared the most wholesome message for Mia, after she passed the crown to Qhawe Mazaleni on Saturday:
“It’s been such a privilege to stand on the sidelines, cheering you on and supporting you when it mattered most. It’s true that not all good things are meant to be easy, yet you made it look effortless with your light, tenacity and infectious smile. You continue to teach me about life, love, patience and how precious every moment shared with the people you love truly is,” he said.
“Now that the whole of South Africa has seen what I’ve always known about you, why I fell in love with you, and why I keep falling deeper every day,” writes Luke. “I’ll continue to support you until the sun dies out, just as I know you’ll do the same for me. Here’s to the next chapter of our lives, side by side, always and forever.

Mia’s appreciation for her beau is just as swoon-worthy.
“Thank you for holding my hand, for helping me to reframe anxiety into excitement. For doing up all the buttons on my [Anel Botha] gown when everyone was too busy, for carrying my water and my purse. Just thank you for everything. My absolute rock and steadiness through the storm,” she wrote in response.
The couple announced their engagement in July earlier this year, in their third year together. Their love deserves a nod, but Mia’s exit from the pageant also deserves a clap.
Her ‘end-of-chapter’ post on social media had SA holding back tears.
“At four years old, I spoke my very first sentence: ‘Look there, white clouds,’” she said, “I didn’t know then the deep symbolic meaning of hope those words would carry throughout my life. And as I take my final walk tonight, I do so knowing that the little girl who once looked up and said, ‘Look there, white clouds,’ is now walking beneath them, no longer searching for hope, but carrying it within her,” she wrote.
