Miss SA Mia le Roux is using her platform to champion inclusivity and encourage those living with disabilities to dream big.
South Africa (15 August 2024) – As the first hearing-impaired Miss South Africa, Mia le Roux’s journey is not only an inspiration but also a testament to the determination of the human spirit.
As Casual Day approaches on 6 September, Mia has shared a heartfelt message to persons living with disabilities.
Driven by the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), Casual Day provides crucial financial support to hundreds of schools and organisations working tirelessly to improve the lives of people with disabilities across South Africa.
Mia’s journey has touched many people’s hearts and shines a spotlight on the importance of inclusivity and the vital work done by organisations supporting people with disabilities.
Taking to her social media, a compassionate Mia affirmed her support and solidarity with the disabled community.
“To my community, you are seen, you are beautiful and you are worthy. If you have a dream in your heart, it is there for a reason. Keep working for it, even if you have to work 10 times harder, it is okay. It’s about your journey, not the journey of others.”
She further encouraged people to go against their fears and allow themselves to dream big.
“You are worthy of that dream. I cannot wait to see all that you accomplish,” the Miss SA shared.
Her steadfast belief in the potential of others is truly heartwarming. At the age of two, Mia received the gift of hearing through a cochlear implant, thanks to the tireless efforts of her community, who raised funds for the procedure as she shared with Miss SA.
Mia’s heart for others, perseverance and refusal to be limited by her physical impairments affirms her motivational spirit and continues to motivate us and many others.
