A Cat who went missing during the evacuations has returned home 6 months after the Knysna fires.

On the 7th of June 2017 Knysna was ravaged by fires and this idyllic town was burnt to the ground. Families have lost their homes, livilhoods and were left hopeless, helpless and homeless.

Zo and Jonty Cornah and their two children were forced to evacuate their home in Welbedacht when the fires hit Knysna. The fires were raging and getting closer and closer to their home. Their cat, Macie was completely petrified and ran away during the chaos.

“She got so scared whilst we were evacuating and we couldn’t find her. It all happened so quickly.”

When they returned the next day, they found their home and workshop had been burnt to the ground and there was no sign of Macie.

The family have never lost hope and have been looking for her since that horrible day. And then last week – 6 months to the day – Macie was found up the road from their property!

“I saw a picture on Facebook last week and knew that it was our Macie. I got in contact with the lovely lady who posted it, who happens to live up the road from our property and arranged to see Macie immediately.”

“We knew it was her straight away and she recognised us immediately. It was the most heart-warming moment. She was all over us and practially hugging Lily back.”

“Exactly 6 months to the day, since we lost her, we had her home with us again.”

This story is something else… so incredibly heartwarming story!
