Hope, a dedicated chef, entrepreneur, and mother, saw her life unexpectedly turned upside down when complications from diabetes threatened her eyesight and life as she knew it.
Johannesburg, South Africa (27 February 2025) – A talented chef, thriving business owner, devoted wife and loving mother, Hope, had everything working out well, just as it should be. Until the start of a new year turned life as she knew it, completely upside down.
When she least expected it, complications with her diabetes diagnosis resulted in her losing her sight in one eye. Now, her only remaining eye is at risk of permanent blindness after a government hospital operation didn’t go as planned.
In a difficult and understandably stressful situation, Hope’s future hangs in the balance, with her event organising business relying heavily on her ability to work and see. Heartbreakingly, losing her sight would also greatly hamper her ability to care for her teen daughter.
With her eye surgery proving to be of great urgency on all fronts, doctors and the Hot Cares charity stepped up to help this hard-working mother in her hour of need.
Generous doctors covered the R200,000 cost of her surgery, and the incredible Hot Cares team and its partners covered the remaining R35,000 required to help restore Hope’s eyesight!
“Hope, you are not alone. Your strength and resilience inspire us, and we are honoured to play a part in helping you regain your sight and your future,” Hot Cares said.
Thanks to the compassion of all the role players and sponsors involved, Hope will not only get the medical procedure she so desperately needs but will also soon get back to doing all that she loves with a renewed sense of the power that her name holds.
