Mfundo and Peyton’s beautiful friendship went viral and melted hearts. Though years have passed, they kept in contact until Mfundo’s life was tragically cut short recently. Pey’s mom, Jane Kilian, has since rallied the Durban community, who have responded with extraordinary compassion in support of their favourite delivery guy’s children.
Durban, South Africa (09 October 2025) – Many of our loyal readers and South Africans far and wide may recall the story about the Courier Guy delivery man, Mfundo Vilakazi. His light and friendly service made an impression on everyone around him, and his beautiful bond with a young girl named Peyton melted hearts across the internet.
We shared about Mfundo and Pey back in 2022. He maintained a close friendship with Pey, her mom Jane Kilian and the rest of the family through the years.
Recently, however, he’s left an empty void in their world and all those who knew him following an attempted hijacking that tragically claimed his life.
“We’re devastated. He was the most special soul,” Jane shares in an interview with Good Things Guy.
“Post-COVID-19, often he would have to drive in our driveway to collect orders, and he would come say hi to her. She started running up to him, and he’d pick her up and hug her. They quickly became besties.”
Though the family moved out of Durban in 2023, they remained in contact with Mfundo.
“I would send him photos and videos of Pey, and he would send videos to her and check in. We saw him in August 2024 and this year as well, and it was exactly the same with them. So, so cute.”

After learning about his passing, Jane donated some money to Mfundo’s family for the funeral, which they received with gratitude. However, she still felt compelled to do more.
“I thought, let me open it up to Durban North, as we all loved having him as our courier guy. So I connected with the family and found out the bank details, and off we went! We raised over R25,000 between Facebook, Durban North, Instagram and TikTok, and the family was able to give Mfundo the funeral he deserved,” Jane shares.
Not stopping there, she further launched a BackaBuddy crowdfunding campaign six days ago to help support Mfundo’s children as he usually would.
The response from the public?
“Phenomenal! We knew that the Durban North community would rally for him, but the social media support and especially TikTok, has blown my mind. I’ve been crying every single day, not just for the loss of him and that I’ll never see him again, but the comments have been INCREDIBLE!”
Jane will be handing the funds raised over to Mfundo’s family to support his children with clothes, toys, school uniforms, sports kits and food over the next few months and years.
With the outpouring of compassion and some giving from the very little they have, it just goes to show that South Africans have hearts of gold and that Mfundo’s life touched many.
“They [South Africans] saw Pey and Mfundo as this beautiful example of what South Africa should be, and I hope that legacy will live on,” Jane adds.
The Good Things Guy team extends its heartfelt condolences to Mfundo’s bereaved family and loved ones during this difficult time.
