Once disfigured and left to beg on the streets of Sandton, Siphiso now stands at the cusp of a fresh start on all fronts of his life, thanks to the people who made his outer and inner healing possible.
Gauteng, South Africa (27 February 2025) — Healing the outside is one journey, healing the inside another. For a man named Siphiso, both were critical to changing his life on all fronts. And both likely wouldn’t have been possible if not for a special organisation living up to their name.
In 2023, the Angel Network’s Glynne Goldberg Wolman shared his story, describing Siphiso as kind, warm, special and in need of a break in life.
He had spent a lot of time begging on the streets of Sandton and had become disfigured due to a cyst he’d been born with.
Many pieces had to fall into place to help Siphiso from that point onward. First up was assessing his disfigurement to help him get his sight back. Assessments began in 2023, and by 2024, the different stages of the cyst-removal were fully complete.
By September, he welcomed the sight of both eyes back once again.
However, on the inside, Siphiso had another battle to face: beating addiction.
Life on the streets and losing his job had led him down this road, but the Angels were determined to give him as much support as possible to get clean.
Six months ago, Siphiso went into rehab, ready to change his life. In a positive update, the Angel Network have shared that the rehab facility he is at have sung his praises, acknowledging his progress and character.
“He is highly detailed in his homework preparation, eager to learn, and open to correction. His commitment to change is evident in his willingness to explore and address areas of personal growth. His progress has led to increased responsibilities within the men’s camp, where he has taken on leadership roles and assists in mentoring others. Sifiso is embracing these responsibilities well, demonstrating maturity and reliability,” his counsellor shared per the Angel Network.
Further praises commended his positivity, respect and his accountability as well as emotional stability.
The Angel Network add:
“Siphiso will be discharged mid June and we would love nothing more than to able to assist him with a job and accommodation to get him back on his feet. We cannot allow him to relapse. Siphiso previously worked for panel beaters replacing windshields.”
