Operation Smile

Operation Smile is turning 35 and to celebrate they are giving 35 new smiles in 35 days. They make a huge difference to many lives and are a great charity!

Operation Smile is officially 35 years old! To celebrate, the medical volunteer organisation has pledged to create 35 new smiles in 35 days. They started the campaign on the 6th of October and will do an operation every day until the 10th of November.

Operation Smile created a video featuring local celebrities such as Braam Malherbe, Catherine Grenfell, Chris Bertish, David Grier, Irma G, Liezel van der Westhuizen, Mamello ‘Mumz’ Mokoena and Sibongile Mafu. They are all challenging South Africa to make a small donation towards the 35 smiles.

“The aim of the #35SmilesIn35Days campaign is to raise a minimum of R5,500** per day; a total of R192,000 over the 35 days,”

“From 6 October to 10 November, all funds* donated will help fund either or both cleft lip and palate care for children and adults from under-resourced areas across South Africa.”

“Every rand donated goes a long, long way in changing many peoples’ lives so get your friends, family, colleagues and even industry peers to participate.” – Lauren Bright Country Manager:  South Africa for Operation Smile.

David Grier is said to be climbing Table Mountain 35 times to raise awareness for the cause. If you would like to join in you can donate here and use the hashtag #35SmilesIn35Days to challenge your friends and family.
