Thank you to each and every one of you! We saved Kei; she saved us, and South Africa has restored our faith in humanity!
Johannesburg, South Africa (17 October 2021) – South Africans collectively donated over R68,000 for Kei, while dotsure.co.za pledged R60,000 to help the pup… which means over R120,000 has been raised but the Lamonts are planning on doing something amazing with the extra money!
Kei the Malinois cross showed she is much more than just man’s best friend when she took on a violent armed robber despite being shot in the face, saving her owners’ lives in an extraordinary act of bravery.
Even with a severely shattered jaw, the little dog desperately tried to alert the neighbours by pacing up and down at their gate. When she failed to get their attention, she sought help further afield.
The Lamonts adopted Kei from the Boksburg SPCA last year – and it was the SPCA the distraught family called for assistance when they found their canine hero with a shattered jaw and top molars, severely injured tongue and other shrapnel injuries after the harrowing home invasion. She couldn’t bark because of her wounded jaw.
The family’s other dog, Holly the Biewer Yorkshire terrier, was distressingly killed by the attacker after a traumatic firefight.
After the incident, Kei was rushed to an after-hours vet, where she was stabilised, scanned and operated on. She was then referred to the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital in Pretoria for further treatment and initial surgery. She is now home, and her wounds have been dressed, but she is on medication and is being tube fed. Further scans and treatment await, including fitting a plate in her jaw and a possible bone graft. All this is expected to come to around R60 000.
South Africans collectively raised enough money to settle the Vet bills (over R68,000), but dotsure.co.za was also so moved by Kei’s love and devotion that the pet insurer undertook to settle the veterinary hospital bills for several procedures and reconstructive surgery on her jaw following the shoot-out at her family’s Benoni home in the early hours of 3 October this year.
The Lamonts have been so overwhelmed with the love and support from South Africa that they wanted to thank everyone. Speaking to Good Things Guy, Sarah Lamont said that her faith in humanity has been restored!
“Words cannot express how unbelievably grateful we are to all you wonderful, kind-hearted people out there. Our family is absolutely blown away by the love, prayers, and support we have received thus far. It is incredible to see how people have opened their hearts and are so willing to donate towards Kei’s medical bill and recovery; even through the tough times, so many people have been so willing to help us, and we are eternally grateful.
We are so blessed, and your acts of kindness have helped ease the trauma for us.
Thank you to each and every one of you for all you have done for our Kei and our family.
With all the generosity we have received from far and wide, we have chosen to donate all remaining funds to the Boksburg SPCA in loving memory of our sweet little Angel Holly.”
Sarah will be joining us on the Good Things Guy podcast next week! Make sure to tune in on Tuesday at 7 am.
